i recently was involved in a conversation regarding fantasy football with some of my acquaintances

i know quite little about the topic, but was intrigued about the amount of time the average person spends on their fantasy league

according to scoutcast.ai, a popular fantasy briefing platform, the average player spends roughly 6.9-7.9 hours per week participating in fantasy football

to be clear--this is not a moral problem--there is no religious statute against playing fantasy football

7 hours per week, however, is no small amount

if we take the nfl regular season of 18 weeks--ignoring playoffs and the super bowl--the total time is 128 hours spent on fantasy football

comparatively, it takes 100 hours to learn guitar enough to play a handful of songs and know basic rhythm patterns

i have never played fantasy football, but my perspective--and i am willing to hear a counterargument--is that it is a purely time-filling activity

it makes little contribution to the realms of information or art, the only redeeming factor being if the activity is done in a social setting allowing the players a common topic to relate around
